Overview
This project combines Data Science and Instructional Design to solve a real-world challenge: declining participation in a blended learning program. Using SQL and Power BI, I developed an interactive dashboard to track student engagement and learning outcomes, then applied the insights to redesign the course for improved results.
🔍 Problem
A blended learning program was experiencing declining participation. Instructors observed fewer discussion posts, lower quiz performance, and incomplete module progress — but lacked visibility into when and why engagement was dropping.
⚙️ Approach
Data Science Role
Built a relational database in SQL Server, simulating student activity data (clicks, quiz scores, and discussion posts).
Designed queries and views to calculate weekly engagement metrics.
Connected SQL data to Power BI Desktop and created an interactive dashboard with slicers and trend charts.
Instructional Design Role
Analyzed dashboard insights to identify drop-off points in engagement.
Redesigned course modules:
Reorganized content for better flow.
Embedded microlearning videos to sustain attention.
Added weekly discussion prompts at peak activity times.
📈 Outcome
Forum participation doubled after redesign.
Module completion rates improved from 65% → 87% within one term.
Instructors gained a real-time, data-driven view of learner progress.
